IND vs SA: Rahul Dravid confirms ‘Virat Kohli set to return for 3rd Test’

Virat Kohli PC Live:

On injuries:

We have been playing a lot of cricket. It is important to manage workload and that is you see a few niggles in players every now and then.

Personal form:

I have been hearing this for long. This is not the first time. I have been compared with the records I have set myself. I want to perform regularly for the team. I am not concerned about the outside noise and I have nothing to prove.

Pace attack:

When I took over, we were No 7 Test team and now we are No 1 for the last four-five years. I laid down a vision and a path to follow. We had to play with high intensity every day, every match to stay at that level. We have such a good pace attack that we are confused before every match on who to play. We take a lot of pride in that. Our Test performance is down to our pacers.

Mohammed Siraj?

I am absolutely fit. Mohammed Siraj is not match-ready. We will have a discussion today and decide on who will come in. We have so many options and something that I am proud of.

Jadeja is big miss?

I think Ashwin is playing that role beautifully. So, I don’t think we have missed Jadeja. I am confident that Ashwin can play that role in all conditions.

Middle-order transition

I can’t talk about transition. It cannot be forced. If you look at the last Test, the way Pujara and Ajinkya batted is priceless for us. These guys have done the job for us in the past. You saw that in Australia. I feel transitions do happen, it will. I think we should leave it unfold naturally and not force anyone.

KL Rahul captaincy:

He had a balanced approach to captaincy. He set the field accordingly. The situation was different. I don’t think he could have done anything differently. I could have done something differently.

Rishabh Pant:

Had a conversation with Risbah in the practice. He has to take responsibility. We all have made mistakes in our careers. One has to realise his own mistake and improve so that it doesn’t repeat.

MS Dhoni told me there must be a gap of 7-8 months between two mistakes.

  • Virat Kohli’s return is all set to boost India’s chances both as batsman and captain with his sharp cricketing brain. KL Rahul had failed to deliver in his absence at Johannesburg.
  • Siraj is doubtful but India own pacers Ishant Sharma & Umesh Yadav who can easily fill the void with amorous Test experience.
  • India might have been outplayed in Johannesburg but they can still go on to conquer the final frontier at Newlands, Capetown to win the maiden Test series in South Africa.
  • Team India are looking to script history at Capetown and win their maiden Test series in South Africa. They have already impressed with their heroics in Australia & England in the last 12 months.
  • Virat Kohli & Co and Rahul Dravid, who have won Tests in SA, can guide India in the Proteas backyard to become the only second Asian Team to beat the opponents after Sri Lanka. The golden opportunity comes after a gap of 3 decades of India vs South Africa rivalry.
