On Sunday, Republican Senator Marco Rubio blasted the January 6 Commission investigating the Capitol riot, calling it a “partisan scam” the purpose of which is to embarrass as many Republicans as it can.
Rubio made his remarks during an interview on CBS’s “Face The Nation.”

Rubio was asked if the Republican National Committee spoke for him when it recently called the Commission a “Democrat-led persecution of ordinary citizens engaged in legitimate political discourse.”
Rubio was blunt about his thoughts on the commission, whose only Republican members are ‘Never Trumpers’ who voted to impeach President Trump.
“I think that commission is a scam,” Rubio declared. “I think it’s a complete partisan scam.”
“And I think anyone who committed a crime on January 6th should be prosecuted and if convicted, put in jail. I do not believe that we need a congressional committee to harass Americans that weren’t even in Washington on January 6th, that were not in favor of what happened on that day, have condemned what happened on that day, but they want to smear them anyway.”

The real goal of the committee, Rubio said, is to “embarrass and smear and harass as many Republicans as they can get their hands on.”
Rubio’s comments come in the wake of the RNC formally censuring Republican Reps. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger for taking part.
The resolution said that Cheney and Kinzinger were persecuting “ordinary citizens engaged in legitimate political discourse” by serving on the committee.
The RNC declared it would “immediately cease any and all support of them as members of the Republican Party.”

Rubio: This is a job for prosecutors, not a congressional commission
“If you entered the Capitol and you committed acts of violence and you were there to hurt people, you should be prosecuted, and they are being prosecuted,” Rubio added.
“But the January 6th commission is not the place to do this,” the senator said. “That’s what prosecutors are supposed to do.”
This commission is a partisan scam,” Rubio concluded.
